Game 35: Mets vs. Brewers @ Shea Stadium

Ben Sheets opposes struggling Mike Pelfrey in today's 1:10 start.

The Good: In the fifth inning, the Mets got something going against a dominant Ben Sheets. A Shawn Green triple led to three runs which was capped off by Dave Newhan's pinch-hit two run homer. Pedro Feliciano also came on in the seventh inning to relieve Aaron Sele out of a jam. He threw five pitches to record a double play and a strikeout. However, that's as close as the Mets would get as the wheels fell off in the eighth inning when they couldn't score a baserunner and allowed five runs. Three of those were allowed by Joe Smith, his first earned runs allowed in the big leagues.

The Bad: Mike Pelfrey allows early runs again, the Mets do not hit when he starts, shotty defense, and foolish decisions cost the Mets through the first four innings.

Overall: As is often done with prospects, it's beginning to look like Mike Pelfrey was overhyped. Personally, I don't think he'll ever be an elite pitcher but his size, velocity, and track record show promise. I'm not too big on his "stuff," and believe that he, as all young pitchers, has to figure out the strike zone before making progress.

Notes: Paul LoDuca started a day game after a night game for the second time this week and Ruben Gotay started in place of hot-hitting Damion Easley.

Final Score: Mets 3, Brewers 12. Record: 22-13.
